Pomegranates from Goychay

The saplings are brought from Goychay, a district in the center of Azerbaijan that the resort calls the place “where the largest and juiciest pomegranates in the country grow.” The pomegranate was chosen for a reason: according to the resort, it is “perfectly suited for planting on a waterfront” because it is not afraid of winds and salty soils.

The boulevard is called a “legacy” of the COP29 climate conference: the resort held the first planting in 2024 together with the COP29 operating company. The first tree was planted by Leyla Aliyeva, Emin Agalarov and Ali Agalarov.

How the planting goes

The planting takes place once a year, on November 16, at 15:00, with registration. It is opened by the “Odlar Yurdu” dance ensemble under the direction of People's Artist Tarana Muradova — in 2024 with the dance “Pomegranate,” in 2025 with baskets of pomegranates.

Guests are given gloves and shoe covers, and the gardeners of the Sea Breeze Landscape department help with the planting. In 2024 every participant received a wooden key ring — with GPS, according to the resort's news, to follow their tree; in 2025 “GPS codes” were mentioned.

In 2025, at 14:00, the workshops of the “EkoSfera” center for children from 6 years old were held at the restaurant The Choyxona: “My pomegranate bracelet” and “Compost — a superfood for trees.” And on the weekend of the first planting the resort's restaurants added dishes for the pomegranate festival to their menus.

The sources do not mention named tags by the trees: the saplings carry paper tags with a picture of a pomegranate. The tag of 2025, judging by the photo, promises the first fruit in October 2026. As of 18.09.2026 there is no announcement of the 2026 planting yet.
